If you want to be European, you could try Anglian Linux Und Gnu... ;-)
Some of us use *BSD's, some of us may even use GNU/Hurd,some of us even use Megadoohickey 9's, but pretty much all of us use Linux. However, I think most people were attracted to the list because it was a *Linux* user group. I think a name change would be confuzing and detrimental.
Of course, that doesn't mean we can't talk about GNU/Hurd, *BSD's, Slowarse, Megadoohickey 10 AND Linux!
;)

And some of us have to test OS bloody X (okay it falls under BSD - but it's a PIA) because Apple are buying up film compositing software like no tomorrow. If they decide to drop Linux in favour of their own hardware and OS-X, then the FX world will need to find something different pretty darn sharpish. The thought of having to replace Linux workstations for Macs is not a thought I would like to entertain (and particularly when you consider how much the software cost to buy for Linux in the first place).
That said, however, there is light at the end of the tunnel in the shape of Cinelerra (http://heroinewarrior.com/cinelerra.php3). Still early days, but you never know what direction these things take.

Speaking of Linux in the film and FX world - Linux User (http://www.linuxuser.co.uk) has published an article in the latest edition about The Moving Picture Company's use of Linux. It saves me having to do the talk! :) Unfortunately the article isn't available on-line right now, but they always seem to stick back issues up there at some point.
