A pleasant meeting in the Fountain, attended by Rob, Daniel, Simon, Ted, Kirsty and Adam. A penguin was present, as was lots of very interesting conversation about wireless internet, open source hardware etc etc (over a game of cards :). We met at 7pm (well, a bit after 7 for most of us - sorry Rob and Daniel!) and did not adjourn till after 10.30pm so it was a good night out!

It was nice to meet Simon and Ted at last. The conversation was indeed nice and geeky, I think adding the deck of cards to the mix helped to fill any awkward silences a bunch of geeks often end up generating, albeit not trying to do so ;-)
Rob and I arrived at 7 and left around 9:15 due to needing to do stuff at home, but it was a lovely evening.
I'm all for making this a more regular thing for the Ely/Nr-Ely crowd. Perhaps every two or three weeks would be good. Admittedly it'd be nice if we could get a venue to have a talk etc, but just making sure there's face2face socialising within the LUG is a good thing.

Sounds great. I'm sorry that I couldn't be there today.
I'd like to get meetings in King's Lynn going again, maybe fitting in between Ely ones. Can anyone in West Norfolk please email me off-list and we'll fix a time and place? I'll put an appeal out on announce too RSN.

With the mention of a potential Kings Lynn meeting, its time for me to de-lurk and introduce myself.
I live in Swaffham and have done since June last year. I am a freelance IT architect and primarily run Linux (mixture of SUSE and Debian) on my machines with the exception of my laptop (Suse/XP dual boot) and an XP development machine.
I have been a Linux user on and off since 93 and a Unix/Minix user since 86 but most of my professional experience has been with MS Windows
Why do I use Linux? I have always preferred the flexibility and stability of *nix compared to the MS platform and the accessibility and availability comapred to the Mac. I like free beer and applaud free speech too.
I am currently working with/for IBM and read the recent Prodigy advert thread with interest, and for those of you that are interested in IBMs involvement with Linux, there is a newsletter that you can subscribe to at http://www.ibm.com/linux/linuxline.
Cheers. Chris.
