Hi folks,
You've all probably seen it by now, but Red Hat has officially released version 7.3 of their latest distribution (which they've called Valhalla).

Martyn

I think I really ought to see how Red Hat is getting on at the moment, I remember the last distro I've tried was Redhat 5.2 to 6.2. But moved on to Debian thanks to it magical 'apt-get'. However, I still compile ;)
Now.. where's vmware got to.....

I tend to use Red Hat primarily because it's what gets used at work and is supported by most the commerical packages that exist for Linux. It's not the greatest distribution by a long shot I know, but it does nonetheless get the job done.
Speaking of commercial support, I've certainly not come across somebody speficially supporting other distributions other than Red Hat. For example, does anybody know of any commercial Linux packages that will provide technical support for Debian or even Mandrake users?
BTW, I'll have ISO images available for anybody that wants them for either of the InstallDays. I'll have to plop the discs in the post to somebody who is attending (I'm thinking that my talk will best be delayed until after June) so that copies can then be made from that.
Regards,
Martyn

What do you mean "commercial Linux packages"? If you mean packages of commercial software for Linux, then I don't care personally, but that's why we have the LSB etc, isn't it? If you mean commercial GNU/Linux support packages, then I can think of a company offering it ;-)

ummm, maybe you didn't know but the Redhat 7.3 CD .isos are *not* gpl, they are trying to do nasty things to restrict people selling them on cheap. Although user groups are still allowed to distribute them. The situation is not clear atm, but I was told this on good authority the other day. Go and look at http://www.linuxemporium.co.uk and try and work out why there is no mention of 7.3 on cheap CDs and why the Redhat name has a (R) logo after it.....

Such restriction are likely to fall foul of various EU directives as well as UK 'unfair restraint of trade' provisions.

Grrrr, and damn annoying it is too, the mirror we have on campus (most of www.mirror.ukc.ac.uk) has gone from providing megafast downloads to now giving us a grand total of 3KBps! Its just not fair! All these deadrat users hogging my bandwidth! Grrrrr!
