Hey List,
Can anyone recommend a graphics card that can definitely play full 1080p video under Ubuntu. Currently I have a Palit GT 240 which can play 1080i at 20Mbps OK but above that and it struggles. However 1080p at 16Mbps isn't watchable.
I get a better result out of mPlayer than VLC when user VDPAU with X11 but its still not watchable. The machine is dual boot with WinXP Pro x64 SP3 and has the same results?
Recommendations are welcome.

Hmm what version of nvidia drivers are you on? I am getting pretty reasonable performance out of VDPAU even on the integrated graphics in a Asus Revo Atom/ION PC (and that's a 9400 with shared GFX memory)
Aside from a few HD trailers I only have a couple of films in 1080p but it is playing both without tearing now and a low CPU load with the latest nvidia drivers. The latest ones in ubuntu's repository aren't enough as I still found they had a lot of issues with VDPAU, you need to add a ppa to get more current ones (or install them manually but that is a pain come kernel update time)
