Has anyone here ever used the Intel QX3 microscope (the blue plastic one) on Linux? If so, what application is needed to view the pictures, apart from the kernel cpia drivers? And is the QX3 worth having??
Cheers,
Gerald.

As far as I can tell it appears as a standard video for linux device so anything that will work with v4l will work with the cam. I am currently using "tvtime" to watch tele with and I am pretty sure that it will work very nicely with the QX3 :)
I was thinking about getting a QX3 at some point, but then I found out that the zoom wasn't optical or something like that which put me off but if you can get one for a tenner I am sure they are quite fun :) Of course if you want to real microscopy work and take photos I am pretty sure you could buy a cheap 2nd hand microscope that will have better optics than the QX3 and work out some kind of attachement for a normal webcam like you can do for astrophotography with a telescope. See http://www.cloudynights.com/astrophotography/toucam.htm for more on astrophotography.
