ALUG Announce
Please send announcements to Announce@lists.alug.org.uk Unsub, change settings via http://lists.alug.org.uk/mailman/listinfo/announce ----- The monthly "Second Thursday" ALUG Norwich Pub Meet is this Thursday, 8th December.
It's at the Reindeer pub on the Dereham Road, just opposite the City Gate. We'll be there from 8pm-ish, though there may be a few people there earlier.
Topics for discussion will no doubt be as varied as ever. The Reindeer has a reasonable selection of beer as well as decent coffee (with biscuits, if you're lucky).
Directions to the Reindeer can be found at: http://www.alug.org.uk/venues/reindeer.html
Pictures of some of the regulars, and irregulars, and, well, just some pictures of people that might or might not turn up are available from:

Which should hopefully aid those of you wondering who to look out for. We're /normally/ just to the left of the main entrance, though the last couple of times we've ended up at the far end of the pub beside the pool table.

Somewhat disappointing unfortunately. Largely due to it being Christmas do season and a large group of Norwich Union staff having their meal in the Reindeer last night, combined with loud music, which meant it was very difficult to hear each other.
Those present included Mike Morton, Phil Wade (I think?), Martin (whose surname I can't remember, sorry), myself, Adam Bower, Paul C and Simon Elliott. Adam had brought a load of Ubuntu CDs and the usual Linux magazines. I'm not sure if he managed to get rid of all of either of them. :)
Adam and I discussed OpenStreetMap (http://www.openstreetmap.org/ if you're not aware of it - we've been busy trying to get Norfolk roughly covered but more help would be good!), Paul showed off his magic metal briefcase which contains a PC and a touchscreen, Martin wondered how many pure developers (rather than sysadmins) we had as a LUG and there was general discussion about how people will pay silly money for things on eBay and how sometimes you can sell stuff there when you can't give it away on Freecycle (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/norfolkukfreecycle/).
Most of us left early (my excuse was that I've had a dreadful cold all week). Hopefully next month the Reindeer will be back to its usual self and we'll be able to hear each other ok. Please do try and make it if you're in the area!

Just as well I found I couldn't make it - so instead I embarked on a restoration project which deprived me of a night's sleep...

I hope to be able to make next month's meeting, and with any luck i may be able to help deplete the Ubantu stocks...

Details? (By emu, if you like.)

More impure ones, I suspect.

Yes, some old rope was sold for silly money recently, I gather, proving the adage. The Shed (uk.rec.sheds) is plotting a killing by dressing up those little plastic balls which come with washing powder, and selling a limited edition of sets of them in Sheddy garments.

I'll try. (I usually do, one way, if not the other.)

Have you looked at the website?
http://www.openstreetmap.org/index.html?lat=52.645406&lon=1.277492&s...
is also a reasonable place to look.
It's a project to produce a Free set of maps that can be used by anyone. Done using GPS to get track points and then drawing the map details based on that.
