Hi all, I've been asked to "send a short description of why you're interested in Linux to the mailing list" - so here it is. I've been into computers since 1982 (ZX Spectrum - Z80) and am now self-employed helping people with their Windoze machines. I like the politics of open-source software and I thought I'd better learn Linux before I die. I'm very, very old (58). Also, the Reindeer is a decent pub - do they still brew their own beer? -- Phil Wade Norwich

Not quite as old as I am, I beat you by a year, and my computing career started long before yours - I've earned my keep by programming since around 1970. -- Chris Green (chris@areti.co.uk) "Never ascribe to malice that which can be explained by incompetence."

Welcome Phil, Age is not a barrier to ALUG we do not discriminate at all. We've even been known to allow the odd Windows user in! :-) May all your computing become `free'. Reindeer is now an Elgoods Pub, no it doesn't brew it's own beer anymore, I believe that was before and during it's time as a Firkin Pub.

Shhh! Don't spread such vicious rumours - we don't let them stinking windows users in really! and we *really* don't like those OS X using hippys *grin*. We do have a *serious* age range in ALUG, and, worryingly, a rather diverse populus, like Tats in Japan. (Or me, now in Brighton).
May all your computing become `free'.

If it's documented and its drivers are supported it's free in my book. Zero cost is even better <g> but apparently PC World prosecutes these days, bah!
