A friend of mine had her modem go kaput over the weekend.
As her cash flow isn't the best in the world, she runs linux on an old spare parts system, hence the external modem.
I've fixed her up with my old faithful modem for the time being but I'm having trouble getting a replacement.
Has anyone got an old 56k capable external modem (that's serial not usb) lying around they'd be willing to part with for a suitable transfer of funds?

She hasn't got an ISA slot free has she? I have a 'real' ISA slot modem - i.e. not a WinModem.

Sorry, I can't help you on the modem front, mainly as I always keep a modem kicking around as a spare.... but I'm also looking for a modem right now for my laptop (I tried and failed to make the built in Winmodem work) so if anyone has a pcmcia modem floating around that they want rid of (33.6k or better, and must only be a single height card, and obviously must work with Linux) then I'd be willing to buy it off them for some beans.
(or alternatively, if you know how to make a Conexant MDC480 modem work with Linux then let me know!)
Thanks Adam

I have a 56k external modem avec serial connection in a box somewhere. I'd tell you the make etc but I can't remember. It's blue ;)

I've got an internal 33k modem that works under linux and a 56k winmodem that if my memory serves me correctly works under linux too. If they can be put to good use then please let me know as they are only gathering dust.
