If so can they zip me across some cd's (for a fair fee)
I need to see if the problem with installing 8.2 on Nehemiah based MiniITX boards has been resolved in 9.
For those that may be thinking about installing SuSE (or is it SUSE now, I'm confused) on a MiniITX board, there is an issue with the Nehemiah chip, cpuid says it is a i686 compat, but it does not support the cmpxchg8b opcode, gcc assumes that anything above i486 can handle cmpxchg8b. End result is that suse 8.2's kernel (compiled for i586) will not run. Gahhhhhh I blame gcc as the IA32 documentation states that you should check before doing conditional moves, and that cmov implementation in the processor is optional.
If anybody has a set they can copy for me (or lend if they don't have a burner) then it will be most appreciated. After a mail discussion between a few ALUG'ers (including myself) and a representative from SuSE (SUSE) it was confirmed that this was allowed (and even possibly encouraged) by SuSE within User groups (they even sent me some 8.2 media which I have sent to some ALUGers.)
Failing that, if anyone has installed SuSE 9.0 on a Via M10000 without resorting to the install on another machine, recompile kernel and swap drive dance required with 8.2, can you let me know.
Regards
Wayne

I'm confused by this. Have ALUGgers been granted "prior written consent" to copy it "for a fair fee," as in "It is forbidden to reproduce or distribute data carriers which have been reproduced without authorisation for payment without the prior written consent of SUSE LINUX AG or SUSE LINUX"? Given that ALUG membership is open to all, that's a truck-sized loophole. Why don't they just change the licence? Or is this permission the sort that comes in an email with a fotter saying "nothing in this email is binding in court"?

A fair point, here was the response I had from SuSE, I feel covered enough by this sitting in my inbox. Of course the agreement he points to relates to 8.2 I shall go and check if the same is true for 9.0.

A question has come up within our lug regarding the licensing restrictions for re-distribution of the SuSE installation media.
Several members of our lug have requested the desire to share the SuSE desktop experience with other members of the User group by providing free copies of the SuSE installation media.
However we are currently reluctant to do this as we are unsure as to the copying restrictions regarding this media.
What steps do we have to take to become eligible for the Free Subscriptions for SuSE linux and what would these subscriptions entitle our group to.
Your help would be most appreciated.
If we're talking about SuSE Personal or Professional, you are free to copy and share the CDs, provided that you don't charge for them - this is covered by the yast licence: ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/8.2/COPYRIGHT.yast
This does not apply to the SuSE Linux Office Desktop because it includes licenced proprietary software - specifically Crossover Office and Acronis, which are licenced by their owners on a single user basis.
Our "subscription service" for LUGs has rather faded away as the number of LUGs has risen. We used to send all LUGs on our list a full boxed copy, but we can't afford this any more. What can do though is to send just the disk set to as many LUGs as possible - if you send me a postal address I'll send an 8.2 disk set today
Best wishes

OK, so what I wrote previously was true for all but the Office Desktop: you may copy SuSE and give it away, but *any* payment (be it cash, media, or whatever) for that is not allowed. Passing the discs around is fine too.

It's a good thing postage is sooo expensive...
