So, now there are 3 facebook groups for ALUG. I don't get to say this very often, so excuse me: UTFS!
Gah, I did!
I searched the mailing list archives and the wiki for a mention of Facebook and then Facebook for "anglian linux user group" and got nothing!
*sigh*
Are there any other ALUG things out there being played with we might want to get in on?

Feel free to merge yours with either of those ;)
I've closed mine now... are we going to standardise on one of these two? I have no idea which one came first and they both seem to have around the same number of members, tho the first one is the only one publically searchable ...
Peter.
OK, I've joined this one as it seems to have been the first created (based on the GID), is the only one findable through the Facebook search engine and also slightly pipped the other one on numbers when I was looking.
I also added this as a link to the front page of the ALUG wiki to help others find it.
Whilst I was there, I had to revert the front page once again because of the increasing spam problem.
Is anyone looking at tightening up the wiki to stop this hijacking of the front page? Moinmoin has something to automate the process of blacklisting spammer URLs, called AntiSpamGlobalSolution:

Although perhaps just tightening up the registration process and who can make edits might be enough ...

I've enabled this, though the other Moins I use also have it enabled and still see spam. If it doesn't help with the front page I'll add an acl so only registered users can edit it.

If there were an acl for editing, what about integrating it with the list, so only list members can edit?
There's been talk of handing out a password for editing on the list before, and I could see it saving time for those moderating list/wiki as well as those using them.

Cool.
I don't think locking edits down to registered members would be too traumatic, if it came to that.
Any news on when we might see the wiki reach the alug.org.uk url, or is that topic still out for discussion?

Me either.

I have no objection to the current wiki being the front page, but there were howls of dissension when it was suggested before I thought, over the fact that it was too unclear and unfriendly.

It may even be a good idea.

At the risk of sounding controversial and going against the spirit of Wiki: if the FrontPage is suffering spam, could we lock it down completely? Perhaps just the admin(s) could have editing rights and make the content sufficiently general that no one else feels they need to edit it?
Cheers, Richard

I don't think that discussion was particularly related to whether the wiki reached the front page - just a general feeling from everyone that it needs a new theme.
Like most, I agree that the theme needs freshening but the current one is usable and my feeling is it's better to have an accurate but slightly busy front page rather than a now-dated page which makes it somewhat harder to reach the latest content.
Or do I remember it wrong and that's what we've been waiting for?!
I'm more than happy to stand corrected - the beer over the years has not been kind to my memory ... ;)
