ALUG1 was quite a success for an initial meeting, I think we can all agree. But, as discussion here and Tats's page about the meeting (which I hope we can link into the main site *hint*) says, I think we need to do something a bit more "organised" at the start of each meeting, a sort of headline talk. So, I suggest that for the next meeting we have one or more of the following:

"Linux Games: The Final Barrier to the Mainstream?" which could demo the Q3 test and any other freebies that we can get and point at a few of the companies now producing games for Linux and some of the more interesting Free games (xblast remains a favourite of mine). Would also tie in nicely with some networked games later on.

"Interoperability: Emulation and Viewers" which could demo vmware on a machine actually able to run it at a decent speed, VNC, Bochs and maybe a few micro emulators.

"Replacing the Desktop" Ken Thompson's interview with Computer (http://computer.org/computer/thompson.htm) hints that he believes that overthrowing any established computer system involves thousands of man-years to replace the code. Linux appears to be approaching it. What apps do we have to replace the MS Office et al that we are used to?

Other questions: Where? UEA is fairly settled, I think, but Union House appears not to have a room of a suitable size with a network connection. Is there another room available to us?

When? Some of us think before the end of UEA's term so we can get a few undergrads to come along and take a look before they go out preaching the gospel of MS. Some think that we should wait 6-8 weeks between meetings to save us travelling too much, avoid saturation and stealing the smaller LUGs' thunder too much.

Finally, anyone got a venue in Cambs/South Lincs that we can use for ALUG3? And I've moved the list archive (230-odd messages in the first month) to start a new section. I'll probably do that after each meeting.
