Hello all,
The welcome mail suggests that new users say a few words about why they're here, so here goes:
I've run a Debian web server since mid 2004, supporting a handful of data-driven websites and providing mail, ftp and so on for me and the odd friend. On occasion I've played with Linux machines at home: I currently use an old PC as a firewall/router and have another acting as a VMWare host so that I can easily deploy & destroy whatever toy project catches my eye that week. I only briefly used it as a desktop OS: I put it on a dying laptop once the heat issues became too much for it to run WinXP, but only coaxed a few more weeks out of it before the inevitable catastrophic hardware failure.
In terms of helpful knowledge, experience and so on, I know next to nothing about X-servers, window managers and the like. Mainly I know about internet services, and the odd bit of local networking.
