anymore unless you *need* colour printing. I have given up on my (Epson photo 900) inkjet and it now gets the cheapest compatible carts due to how it ate vast amounts of expensive ink and would clog the nozzles on a regular basis which would require dozens of nozzle cleaning attempts (and using more precious ink) to clear the think, this was also the same with my old Epson (fwiw Epson printers have the print head built into the printer, if it gets clogged you can't replace it) but my parents HP (which had been icky) at least has the print head built into the print carts.
The reason I said to go with either the HP or Brother from the posted list of choices was because they should both work with Linux :)
I also recently took the decision to get photos printed from an online lab as they can do much higher quality prints than I can with less hassle and probably around the same cost and that if I need to print something in colour I will just take it to the local print bureau who have decent printers and don't charge very much at all. Oh, and I have a Samsung ML-1510 laser for cheap copies which I can refill the toner carts for not much at all :)
