Meanwhile I have looked into the Linuxant wrapper, which also seems confined to network drivers, and have found the potentially useful ddiwrapper, which seems a possible if problematic solution. The only posting on experience so far reports getting it to install, and apparently using the driver, but failing to obtain any output at the printer.
