I have at last decided to change from metered dialup access to unmetered. Can anyone recommend a good isp with reliable connection, no engaged tones, etc.
I'm using pipex atm, which have given me very few problems, but with the problems of their parent company Worldcom...

Tiscali, (www.tiscali.co.uk) are quite good, and fairly new, and so theoretically quite empty.

I thought that pipex was already separate from UUNET before it was bought by WorldCom... I could be wrong tho..

I use Tiscali too. I get the occassional 'Service not available' but a redial usually gets through.

Tiscali, the new name for World OnLine, IIRC. Not that new, but it's surprising what a takeover-and-polish can do to a tarnished reputation.

I have ben using Clara Net (www.clara.net) for the past 3 years with no problems. Their unmetered access is 14.99pm (Why can't Pine cope with pound signs??? They work fine in the terminal window)
I now have their ADSL service which is very good.

I am current using Demon and I am happy to recommend them.
I am current using HH (ISDN) and never have connection trouble. This probably isn't a fair test of their standard dialup service but when I was using that I also had no trouble connecting every time.
Network performance is usually very good with the occasional glitch.
The helpdesk doesn't officially support Linux but whenever I've spoken to them they have been helpful and clued up and don't refuse to investigate the odd problem with their service just because you're using Linux.
