Sounds a lot like the problem that was present in older versions of Flash on linux...what version of Shockwave flash does about:plugins say when you type it into the address bar of Firefox ?
It says 9.0 r124. Bev.

You'll probably find the problems will go away if you upgrade to flash 10, distro specific instructions should be a google search away, if your current flash was installed via a distro release package then I would recommend you un-install that first.
