did anyone ever install the Rune demo from LXF December 2001? My son (6 y.o) found a copy of this mag and was keen to try Linux. I loaded RH7.2 onto our machine, but cannot get this game installed. I'd be keen to encourage him to try something other than Windows, so it'd be nice if he could be impressed rather than put off by his first contact. I usually use rpm's as you might guess....
The readme says run the install shell script (with $ sh rune-demo.run ,) which I do. The install script asks first if I want to read the readme, then asks for the install path. If I write $ /home/games where I would probably want it the error message is $ cannot write to /home/games/loki/rune-demo and install stops If I put "/" as the install path then the install appears to start, but nothing happens. I then killed the process after 20 minutes.
anyone help?
Glen
Hi Glen
If your home directory is /home/glen then surely the path name you should use would be /home/glen/games - Unless you're logging in as games, I suspect you neither have that home directory or write permissions.

yeah, that $ prompt looks as though you are not root... so try installing it as root and putting it in /usr/local/games/ would be a more normal place to put games also, but then /home/games won't really hurt too much.
