Dear All,
Since yesterday, Google web searches all come up blank unless I allow Google to set cookies (Firefox 10.0.7 on Gentoo). Google's privacy FAQ still says that Google search will work without cookies, and I find that Google Image, Books, and Scholar searches work just fine without cookies, so it doesn't appear to be a deliberate change of policy on Google's part. Anyone else experiencing similar symptoms?

Nope (FF 17.0.1)
But you can avoid google anyway if you use ixquick or startpage.

I am seeing those symptoms with Firefox 17.0.1 and I've seen other people on the web complaining about it.
Refreshing the page causes the results to display but doing that every time is a bit of a pain. It also happens with Iceape but not with Opera.
Strange withall.

Ah yes, that works, thank you.

Maybe a race condition between one server-side process that obtains the search results and another that serves them up as a web page - being allowed to set a cookie might slow down the latter enough for the former to complete, and doing the latter a second time by refreshing the page might also give the former enough time to complete...?

Or google just want you to allow cookies......

If you care about your privacy, just don't use google.

All is back to normal now, i.e. Google searches work both with and without cookies, and without having to refresh.
Thanks for all the replies.

Have a look at www.ixquick.co.uk - I've expunged all reference to Google on my box. (might be ixquick.com - I've had it bookmarked for two or three years, when it was a Polish address.)
