Dennis I agree, interesting range of technology. But my query was partly ironic. I declare an interest in HMG websites. I built the original open.gov.uk service when I was in CCTA (now sadly no more). It was initially built on a Sun SPARC 5 (yes, a pizza box) running solaris 2.3 and CERN's original webserver. I later migrated to NCSA's webserver, then apache and eventually moved to linux on dell servers. But in all that time, the back end was a pretty simple mix of CGI scripts. Ted I remember that well. I had actually left OGC five years before that incident. But I had (and have) friends in its succesor organisation (GPS) In fact my wife still works there. OGC was not a well managed (or well liked) organisation. Gershon has a lot to answer for. But at least he got his kighthood. Personally I found the mousemat a good representation of the way most people thought about Gershon.
