Because I'm stupid? In fact, I think I tried apt-get and had various problems. Plus following advice. It's installed fine anyway(she blustered), I just need to be able to load up the lib.php4.so module in apache but don't seem to have it. Ta, Jen

Did you build it the right way? You have to set some options or something to make it build as an Apache module. I think it builds as a CGI executable by default.
