Mark, Keith and Tim,
Thanks for your replies - I was a bit short on useful information in my last message, sorry.
I can associate with the AP and obtain an IP fine, my problems are that once connected I can't get the registration page to load.
In Window$, it comes up fine (in both Chrome and Firefox), but in Ubuntu I just get a broken img artefact and a message to the effect of "service not available try again later"
I'd be happy to just use something else, but as I paid for wifi with my room, I kinda feel a bit cheated that I can't use it for is intended purpose to practise and revise my coursework.
Thanks for your input :)

Does it make a difference if you copy and paste the registration page URL from windows, into your browser in Linux? (Obviously this might be difficult across OS's unless you are using virtual machines, buit perhaps you can write down the URL and manually type it.

Get something to spoof the browser identity to be windows and see if that changes anything.

And complain loudly, vehemently and often to Travelodge management about the lack of proper service.

Hi all,
A thought struck me as I was walking back to the hotel today about my wifi issues - I had installed bind on my laptop a couple of weeks ago to get round an issue with name resolution.
Disabling Bind and allowing Network Mangler to set my resolv.conf from the supplied wifi settings.
Can't believe I didn't see it before - chalking that one up to too many things to think about at once late at night!
Many thanks to everyone for your advice and assistance :)
Jim
