This kind of thing pisses me off, however this is related to the general defense of laws put in place by the American government. More exactly, our problem with this appears to stem from the fact the original law was passed. The key question appears to be why this law was passed and what can be done in the future to stop this happening again!
We can change it but it will be difficult. We need to make it so that the law is completely useless and we need to work to get it removed! No I am not naive
This also seems to be related to the general problem of the introduction of more complex technology into society, which is governed by people who don't understand it. Unless something is done, this is only going to get worse.
The problem is people are apathetic, stupid, gullable and down right incompetent. the 3 B's works everytime, add some FUD to the Bull shit and your onto a winner, the problem is the goverment is currupt and needs replacing, Quite how we can do so will prove difficult, which comes back to the qualities of people above.
Ideas to stop this in the future, comments on the above?
Some Ideas above, but I think we will need to think carefully. Luckily the brits have a good record of being able to change laws through peace full protest i.e. Chartist movement, Suffragets(Sp?), gay rights movement. However non of these really contradicted on the interests of Big business, which could prove interesting, one thing for sure we need to use the system against the system.
But step one is join the Euro crimes mailing list. Step 2 is to join the EFF.

Perhaps, or may be they have not been educated about the full implications of their rulings. I expect they only checked with business on the advantages/disadvantages of this ruling, and they of course are concerned 100% with protecting their intellectural copyrights, etc

I'm curious, who would you like the government to be replaced by?
