This is probably a really simple one but as a floundering newbie, I is really stuck now.
I'm was running SUSE 9.1 after a fresh install and all was OK.
The install included ALL available packages that came with SUSE 9.1.
My Linux box was the only one in a sea of Win XP machines on our network but I was able to see them and browse their shares with confidence using konqueror.
I did ALL of the on-line updates with YAST and all was still OK.
I then Enabled the SAMBA Server/client in YAST so the they could browse my shares and it went all pear shaped.
I am now unable to browse the network using konqueror as I used to be able to do.
After clicking on the "windows network" icon as I always have i get the following message.
"Internal Error Please send a full bug report at http://bugs.kde.org Unknown error condition in stat: Network is unreachable"
It is reachable though. Our proxy server has a fixed IP and I am able to browse its files if I put "smb://IP ADDRESS" in the address bar.
The other WIN XP boxes in the network are using DHCP and I'm unable to find them.
The thing is that after an extensive google search for the answer and finding several different "definate causes" for the problem, none of them work and I am still no nearer to stopping all the WIN XP moomins from laughing at my sorry attempts at running a different OS.
It seems like there are a lot of people out there with the same problem but no-one knows how to sort this.
I feel thick.
I hope someone can help me.... my brain hurts :-(

Don't feel like that. You did the right thing by looking at Google :)
How often does SUSE send out package updates? All I can thinking is:
Look at YAST2 and set it up again on there? I think this could fix your problem...

Are your XP boxes in a domain or a workgroup ? When you configured the Samba Server on your SuSE box did you have to type in a domain/workgroup ? Do you know if you have a wins/dns server on your network ?
and finally if you obtain the current ip address from one of the DHCP configured XP machines can you get to it from your box using smb://IP ADDRESS
