When you log into a Box there are two message files used, one called motd is given when you have logged in, what the name of the file which is displayed before you log in i.e.
Welcom to My computer all senssions are logged Username:
This is on a Sun box running solaris.

/etc/issue and sometimes /etc/issue.net although not every operating system has these.
