I was up until now more than a little wary of anything that involved the command line or Text editor, as I have no idea what I'm doing. However as I've decided that every thing has to come off the first disk in order to re-install windows on it's own disk where I can ignore it, (and it and all the Email's I collect every so often, and the files I can't do without will be safe from ill informed experiments in linux, which sometimes have a backlash), I'll have a go, after all I'm going to reinstall everything.

Thank you so much for your suggestion, I'll try in the morning when my first dose of painkillers lend extra, baseless confidence, (overconfidence really).
