Yes. Excellent. Having somewhere for the 'v' option to send the output to has made the cron task happy. (As in >tar -cvzf $OF /var/www/ /home/cvs > /tmp/some_logfile 2>&1) I guess I had two ways of mending this then, what I did which was to give a file for the v output to go to, or remove the 'v' option, as someone else suggested. Now to the task of finding how to do a rotating cron thing that deletes the backup files when they are more than a week old, and my box backs up using a simple file at no cost. Unspoken dig at the extremely expensive backup software our ntserver runs. But it does have a *lovely* gui. (sarcasm intended).
