Anyone with any experience of connecting Linux and OSX? I have 2 linux boxes (SuSe 8.2 & 9.0) at work which seem to connect fine over Samba to Winders machines. The 8.2 doesn't connect to a Samba share on OSX (jaguar), whereas the 9.0 connects - but painfully slow. Any experiences with Samba working at completely different speeds?
Not experienced that particular problem, but there were a lot of fixes applied to samba in the Panther release (specifically when I upgraded OSX to 10.3.3 at a clients a lot of samba issues they had simply vanished)
Ihave Panther on another machine - I'll try from that.
You didn't mention, but I assume that the Windows machines connect to the OSX shares at a reasonable speed ?
Yes, they connect fine.
When you say painfully slow are to referring to the actual time to connect or data transfer to/from the share (or both)
Both.
How are you managing passwords, do you have a samba box running as a PDC, a Windows box doing that or are you not running a domain ?
Not running a domain at the moment.
Anything interesting happening in the Mac's logs when the 8.2 box fails to connect ?
I'll have to check - at the moment it's off as I've run out of elec sockets, and the box with 9 on is plugged in there instead!
