I am having trouble making USB work under Linux (stand alone Linux only system, SuSE 6.3). I have a SuperMicro P6SBA motherboard (PII MMX 266MHz CPU, 440BX chipset hence UHCI host controller) with AmiBios R1.5b. I have compiled kernel 2.2.16 with the 'usb-2.4.0-test2-pre2-for-2.2.16-v3.diff' patch. The error in /var/log/messages is:- "linux kernel: usb-uhci.c: version v1.184 time 01:06:53 Mar 25 2000 linux kernel: usb-uhci.c: Found UHCI device with no IRQ assigned. Check BIOS settings!". In the Bios set-up I have 'USB Function' set to enabled and 'Plug and Play-Aware OS' set to No. I have tried many other permutations of the bios settings. Has anyone made USB operational with this motherboard/Bios? Does anyone have any suggestions for a remedy? Failing all else, can anyone recommend a currently available motherboard that will provide functional USB? Any help much appreciated. Tim.
Have you had usb working in that othet OS? I ask because I have had no end of trouble with Abit mobos and usb both Intel and Amd variants.

No, I haven't been on the other side for a couple of years now, although I have been tempted as the months go by and my Epson 610 USB scanner sits here having never made the slightest murmour. I bought this particular model because all the Sane stuff recommended it but I fell at the first hurdle!

I just had a look here http://www.supermicro.com/TECHSUPPORT/BIOS/bios.htm and it looks as though your Bios is now at version 3.1 so I would also suggest upgrading this and the kernel.

How do I update/flash the Bios under Linux? The AmiBios Flash Utility is for the other OS!

Use a dos boot floppy you can use freedos if you really don't want to run Redmond code. Plenty of boot floppy images on the net if you look.
My Epox mobo has the award awflash utility accessible in the bios!

errm good point, if you can get hold of a floppy disk formatted from windows with the system files on that would work. I am presuming that you have flashed a Bios before? If not it is not difficult, but *can* be dangerous if you don't know what you are doing. I would expect you know someone with a windows box? Hopefully someone will enlighten us as to what to do tho!

I would be likely to suggest that an upgrade to kernel 2.2.19 would be in order as 2.2.16 with a patch is likely to be a little buggy.
Sorry that I am not being that helpful, but this is what I would try. Adam
