Hi peeps
I have a sendmail problem. I have at home a network of 2 Windows PC's and an IP masquerading Linux gateway.
The Linux box acts as an SMTP server for the rest of the network. This works ok excewpt, sometimes sending mail fails, as the receiving machine tries to look up gateway.glovercc.freeserve.co.uk. I know I'm being lazy here. When I do dial up with Freeserve, everything works fine, as they trap everything heading from a host to an SMTP server and process it themselves. I have recently started using ClaraNet.
What I need to know, is how do I set up sendmail to caryy on receiving mail for my local network, but for any mail heading outside, to go via Claranet's SMTP server?
I hope that made sense, as I'm sitting here at work at 3:15am, and it's not what I'd describe as concise :-)
Any help grately appreciated. Chris

Hmm... I'm probably talking bollocks here (since I'm 'not entirely with it' today) but it sounds like you're after a smarthost. I'm not totally sure how to do this in sendmail, so you'll need to look at the config file M4 files. It is, as always, a piece of piss using exim. If you're using debian there's almost certainly a nice friendly configuration script for you to use...
Hope that helps,
Paul

If you want to, it's the "DS" line in sendmail.cf (my ip-up script search-and-replaces that with the correct host for my ISP... remember to HUP sendmail to make it reread the config file if you're doing that). It's also probably worth making your machine masquarade as something sane to both sendmail and the outside SMTP connection to avoid the DNS lookups.

Hi, I use:
# "Smart" relay host (may be null) DSsmtp:smtp.connectfree.net

OK. Is there any truth in the claim (on uk.local.lincolnshire most recently) that ClaraNet are a "bag of b*ll*cks ISP"?
