(apologies for being slight OT)
Last night, my old Commodore monitor for my Amiga blew up. I'm using a spare at the moment, and wondered if someone could point me in the right direction to getting it fixed. I know there are a wide variety of people on this list, thus the post.
The monitor in question is a 1084S (specifically 1084S-P VDE). Last night, in the middle of using it, it powered down and now emits a high pitch whistle when turned on. This whistle is constant and is still emitted for about two seconds after the monitor is switched off.
Any help useful.

Sounds like the chopper transistor in the Line Output Circuit has died..or if you are really unlucky then the Line Output Transformer has popped (hope it isn't this as I doubt they are still available)
Those monitors are (from Memory) a Philips unit. Any reasonably competent Electronics/TV service outfit should be able to have a good crack at fixing it. Parts may still be available if not then substitutes can sometimes be found.
If you can't find anywhere local (I am not even sure where you are) then I would certainly take a look at both yours and Stechjo's. It's been a while now but I used to service consumer electronics for a living.
However I urge you to try and find a local repair centre. They will probably be far quicker at getting it sorted than me as my workload is very high at the moment also they already have the accounts with spares suppliers (whereas I have to go and ask a favour at my local service outfit)
I am in Bury St Edmunds.
