Thanks for all the advice everyone.

Mr. C is downloading Knoppix to give it a try but it looks like we might be using RedHat for workstations and put a little bit of effort to get Debian installed for servers. We're also looking into other pieces of software mentioned that could be useful.

The machines we'll be installing on are all pretty much identical, maybe a different chipset here and there so once we get one working the others shouldn't be too difficult.

There's been a few individual offers of help which I'm sure we'll be taking up as we're bound to come stuck at some point.

Now if you'll excuse me while I start to make my banners saying "Microsoft Free Zone" and some giant penguins to decorate the walls with! The machines that we want to install on should become available around June/July time, so watch this space! Plus I hope to make it to some LUG meetings after my exams.
