SSH in User Directory

Hi guys, I'm having trouble installing SSH into my university Home Directory (~). I've got the ssh-1.27 sources, and configured with ./configure --prefix=~/downloads/ssh --with-etcdir=~/downloads/ssh/etc It builds fine, but errors on make install. Originally it failed because --with-etcdir specified hasd no effect in the Makefile, so I manually edited it so that all paths were ~/downloads/ssh and then re-ran it, but once again I get an error, this time: [ ... ] chmod 755 ~/downloads/ssh/bin/ssh1 chmod: ~/downloads/ssh/bin/ssh1: No such file or directory make: [install] Error 1 (ignored) chmod 755 ~/downloads/ssh/bin/ssh chmod: ~/downloads/ssh/bin/ssh: No such file or directory make: [install] Error 1 (ignored) mv ~/downloads/ssh/bin/ssh1 ~/downloads/ssh/bin/ssh1.old mv: ~/downloads/ssh/bin/ssh1: No such file or directory make: [install] Error 1 (ignored) /usr/bin/install -c -o root -m 04711 ssh ~/downloads/ssh/bin/ssh1 /usr/bin/install: ~/downloads/ssh/bin/ssh1: No such file or directory make: *** [install] Error 1 Of course the file doesn't exist. Can anyone offer any ideas? My house telco line isn't installed until Tuesday week and I have a server in the US needing some attention that requires ssh to login. Dial-in and X

Ok folks, quick question. I succeeded in making a linux box a dial-in system, and it authenticates and all that a treat. However, I want to telnet in over the dialled-in connection, and can't, and I want to use X (X-Win32) and can't. I'm sure I'm forgetting something simple, but can't think what. [Newbie question - what video card to buy?

I am hoping to get to grips with Linux by using an Evesham Pentium Pro 200 PC. I have pinched the Video card to drive a second monitor on my W98 PC so have to buy a new card. Mainly for business applications but I might play the occasional game. Any suggestions for a Linux supported card please? Also any suggestions for a basic sound card and 10BaseT network card. AHA-2930 driver

CAn anyone point me at a driver for the Adaptec 2930CU scsi card? The AIC-7xxx *ought* to work with minor mods, but has anyone made those mods? new linux company to be based in Norwich

Hello We are to develop a series of mass user content driven (with editorial control) internet start ups in the uk/norwich, using open source on the linux platform, we are struggling to find a particular solution to one of our needs, ie content management. do you know of any open soure software that is similar or close to the following CM software http://www.eprise.com/products/ any help would be greatly appreciated, there may be other reasons to talk/meet soon.
