Looks like BT may finally be getting the message: http://www.zdnet.co.uk/news/2000/6/ns-13373.html Question is, if BT could lower the Surftime price from 35GBP/month to compete with SurfUnlimited's 9.99GBP/month server (conditions apply), just how much profit did BT think they could make? Anyone know when Often are due to make their announcement about Surftime? Debian upgrades just become a little more realistic :-) James. Did anyone else see The Money Program on BBC 2 last night?

If so what did you think? Didn't it sound as though some very devoted Linux guys took over the editing of the program? For those who didn't see it, well unfortunately it doesn't seem to look as though it will be repeated. But the article was around 20mins long and made comparisons between Linux and NT. They featured Powys council who have deployed Linux boxen as dial on demand routers/mail servers for their local community's drop in centre type things, and saying that they chose Linux as it's cheaper than NT and easier to support. They had interviews with Linus and they featured Linux Expo in New York (I think it was the one but it may of been some other Linux show in the States) They made a comparison between the cost of MS Office and StarOffice. They said about how IBM supports Linux, they featured Oracle, they had lots of other things I can't remember, But best of all they seemed to be saying that Win2K is a bit pants and that maybe you should consider Linux solutions instead of deploying expensive MS solutions. It was really cool it seemed as though they were trying to put a bit of a spoiler on the launch of Win2K and this was on British TV! It just goes to show how Linux support & advocacy has grown in the past year. If anyone does find that it will be repeated (maybe on News 24?) then let me know as I would like to see it again. Debian again

Hey there, So I'll install Debian 2.1, then go-line and do apt get-update or whatever it is. What should I expect to get? I see GNOME 0.30 is in stable, i obviously need something newer (and stabler) than that, same with E0.14, Apache, PHP3, etc. Or do I have to wade into unstable and watch my phone bill go into outer space? sendmail question

Hi peeps I have a sendmail problem. I have at home a network of 2 Windows PC's and an IP masquerading Linux gateway. The Linux box acts as an SMTP server for the rest of the network. This works ok excewpt, sometimes sending mail fails, as the receiving machine tries to look up gateway.glovercc.freeserve.co.uk. I know I'm being lazy here. When I do dial up with Freeserve, everything works fine, as they trap everything heading from a host to an SMTP server and process it themselves. I have recently started using ClaraNet. What I need to know, is how do I set up sendmail to caryy on receiving mail for my local network, but for any mail heading outside, to go via Claranet's SMTP server? I hope that made sense, as I'm sitting here at work at 3:15am, and it's not what I'd describe as concise :-) Any help grately appreciated. Debian Install of Sendmail

Hi there, I'm odds-on to take the plunge and install Debian (VA CD hi Gareth!) this weekend. Now I am paranoid about my mail. I was so paranoid about sendmail that rather than follow the instructions a fellow Demonite put up on the web, I instead downloaded a copy from another site for Demon. I have seen Debian installing before, asking about fetchmail, sendmail, god knows what else. That actually scared the sh*t out of me, since I've already had one install when sendmail bounced all my mail - I don't want that happening again. So, I can grab a copy of the .cf file as a backup, but what I need to know is what to say to the Debian installation to make sure mail works exactly how it does currently under RedHat 6.0. Hello! I just thought I'd introduce myself as a new subscriber. My name is Simon. I am 28 years old. And my favourite colour is purple. Or is it brown? Anyway, I'm living in the scourge of the home counties (Essex), using a 486DX2-66 based PC with RedHat Linux 6.0 (and Windows 98). The PC was cobbled together out of bits (thrown out in my direction, bought second hand, bought new...) and is (incompletely) networked to an IBM RS/6000 250 (which is running AIX 3.2.5). Erm, right now that's all I can think of to say!
