I am running Debian 2.2, kernel 2.2.17pre6 and a SoundBlaster Live using the Creative/Emu module. Try as I might I cannot record anything! When I say I cannot record I mean that, although I can create a file by using something like Gramofile, Sound-recorder or KRecord, when it is played back it produces silence (not a scientifically accurate statement)! If I boot the machine into Windows 95 (shudder!!!) I can record and playback successfully and I can play the recorded .wav file back using Linux. The recorded file produced by Linux also produces silence under windows. I have tried recording as a user and as root - no difference. /dev/dsp has rw permission for owner and group. Anyone want a recording of silence? Barry Samuels

OK LinuxNewbie.Com is live... Yes it does exist :-). I'd appreciate some real testing by you guys including some feedback. I'm quite interested in how large/small the fonts look to you from various browsers in various platforms (Windows included). Unfortunately it's a bit hit-and-miss as to which browsers/platforms a problem with large text occurs. Anyhow, give it a look over (mainly for bugs) and hopefully you'll all feel an urge to contribute some content, perhaps even become a full staff member (voluntary, of course ;). I am in #linuxnewbie on irc.openprojects.net most sane hours (and a number of insane hours...), so come on by and talk. I look forward to your feedback... Venue and IRC

I couldn't make this Monday's chat either. :( Where are the logs? If we can't find an alternative venue as ever I'm always willing to host one at Syleham, although I'd prefer some alternative scenery. ALUG-IRC becomes a regular event

Well, at ALUG-40 today, everyone there thought that making the IRC meetings a regular event was a good idea, so please join us online at 2000 (8pm) each Monday evening, on OpenProjects IRC. Server names include hogan.openprojects.net, eu.openprojects.net and irc.linux.com, but make sure to use port 8001. IRC clients include epic4, BitchX (console), kirc, kvirc (KDE), x-chat, yagirc (gnome), tkirc and netplug (Tcl/Tk) amongst many others. ALUG-IRC3 -- The Venue Finder

I regret to say that I won't be able to be online for this week's IRC meeting, as I'll be somewhere with no net connection until Tuesday. If someone could keep a log and send me the file, I'll process it and post it up as before. The last two IRC meets have mainly concentrated on the website. However, I think that's now under control, so it would be more useful if this week's meeting could try to find us a venue for September's meeting ;-) We're really stuck with UEA, being between arrivals weekend and fresher's weekend, so anywhere with tables, electricity and possibly a nearby bar would be welcome. -- MJR
