apt problems

Hi all, I'm having problems with apt.... I was trying to install something (apt-get install libiodbc2) and it couldn't find stuff so i ran apt-get update. . Here is a snippet from apt-get update output: Err ftp://ftp.plig.org stable/non-free Packages Could not resolve 'ftp.plig.org' Err ftp://ftp.uk.debian.org unstable/contrib Release Could not resolve 'ftp.uk.debian.org' Err http://security.debian.org stable/updates/main Packages Could not resolve 'security.debian.org' And here is my sources.list, which has hitherto worked ok. ALUG Linux Distro CDs

Hi folks, It occurs to me that we don't have anything on the web site, nor do we have any proper mechanism (other than at meetings where copies can be made) for folk to get hold of Linux distributions. I tend to use the Linux Emporium (http://www.linuxemporium.co.uk) for the majority of my purchases and they are very good. However, I would like to offer the ALUG slightly cheaper discs which I will burn myself and post to anybody that wants them. CDs will cost £2.00, with postage and packing for any number of CDs at £1.50. 1) Red Hat Linux 7.2 (2 x CDs) - £4.00 2) Mandrake Linux 8.1 (3 x CDs) - £6.00 3) Debian Linux Potato 2.2rev4 (3 x CDs) - £6.00 4) Smoothwall Firewall 0.99 (1 x CD) - £2.00 5) FreeBSD 4.4 (4 x CDs) - £8.00 If this goes well, I'd like to add a page to the web site whereby people can purchase these CDs from the web at a much lower rate than Linux Emporium to help encourage use of Linux. Whatever my profits are on this (which will be very small) will be pumped into running the server running ALUG. If people think this is a wacky and pointless idea, then I shall return to my small corner and hide :) However, if anybody is interested in this scheme, then please let me know what CD(s) you'd like and if you'd like to pay by Paypal/NoChex or personal cheque. RH will allow this - simply make the install disks, boot and load the network card and do an nfs install from RHat. Its still slow but <3 days on ISDN unless you install everything. What might be worth considering is findin something that will 'background' download files and allow restarts from whatever you've already downloaded. With a little pestering, debian will restart its downloads from where it got to, as long as the base is installed (so maybe downloading them to hard disk will still be a good idea for us). For scripted general use, wget is quite easy to configure to make it timeout and retry. -- MJR
