USB webcams

Me and Charles Garcia-Tobin (also on this list) were wasting a Sunday afternoon mucking about with Gnome Meeting last weekend. It is mostly working quite well as far as Audio and Text go, but we now need to both get affordable USB webcams to complete the picture. Any other ALUG'ers out there running USB webcams on Linux ?, which ones have good compatability, we are not over concerned with performance (this is for Gnome Meeting after all) but something that is nice and easy to get working and currently available would be good. I did have a really nice 3Com Office Connect camera. But when I tried it a year ago it was no fun getting it to play with Linux (and anyway it seems to have gone missing now)

Anyone here using LVM? I'm pondering to set one up one day but then again after reading some horror stories of data disappearing randomly etc begun to put me off. Just wondering what everyone's thoughts on this and what are you using it for right now? C

Difficulty using procmail

I'm trying to filter out the tidal wave of spam, now reaching 100 a day on one mailbox, by using bogofilter as part of a procmail filter. My mailserver is postfix, set to invoke procmail by having main.cf contain the line mailbox_command /usr/bin/procmail I set up /etc/procmailrc to contain the following: -------------------------------------------------------------------- # Pass all mail through bogofilter :0fw | bogofilter -u -e -p # If bogofilter failed, return the mail to the queue. # The MTA will retry to deliver it later. :0e { EXITCODE=75 HOST } # File the mail to "spam-bogofilter" if it's spam. :0: * ^X-Bogosity: Yes, tests=bogofilter spam-bogofilter -------------------------------------------------------------------- which according to the bogofilter manual should send all spam to "spam-bogofilter". But it doesn't. The messages get delivered to the user's mailbox without spam-bogofilter ever getting written. The messages themselves contain the X-Bogosity headers and are correctly classified as being spam or not, so it appears either the last rule isn't being reached or isn't operating correctly. I find the procmail syntax pretty impenetrable; can anyone help deduce what's going wrong? -- GT

Hi there, My name is Robert Frusher and have joined the mailing list, I live in King's Lynn Norfolk, presently driving buses for a living... I'm probably not quite a newbie of Linux as I have been using it on and off for about five years. Have had many problems and solved some of them. I was pointed to the group and mailing list by Nick, from Home and Business computing in Lynn. I use both Windows XP and Slackware Linux, the latter more often than not because of what I use my computer for - Web, Email, Software Development and Databases... (I have a degree in computer software engineering I like to keep up with it) Expect some questions, and if I see anything that I may be able to help with I will give it a shot. Robert Frusher

I have a problem with FireWire Disk, I can't mount it ? or I don't know how to do this ? The FireWire card and RH 9.0 recognize it well, but I can't mount the hard disk attached to the firewire card some suggestions ? HowTo ? Cheers Vasko

Norwich sunday meetings - another suggestion

A couple of people have said that they can book a room at UEA, which has always been a popular choice of venue. Since the upcoming 'anniversary' get-together at the start of May has already been discussed and arranged, and since it seems best to keep that as more of a social than a technical event, I suggest that we have another sunday meet in Norwich, at UEA, to bring kit along etc, farly soon. I propose the last w/e in June, i.e sunday 28th June. Does this clash with any other planned events, local or national? As always, comments welcome especially anyone who can say that they intend to be there. Syd
