Venue.
by C. N. Ross 31 Aug '00

All, So what kind of capacity does the meeting require? Does the venue require a connection to the outside world? Is there a group defining group config before the event such as DHCP setup etc. to save time on the day. Is there an agenda, other than fix web site? What is the duration of the meeting? A norwich or north norfolk meeting is good for me, does anyone else have a preference? Yes. Look, everyone, *PLEASE* trim your messages to only include the part of the message that relates to your reply, as it's a waste of bandwidth, space, time, etc. Generally, including the quote *before* your reply is nice, too. Future blatent abuse will get a quiet request, then a boot (probably to the clueless mailing list if I can find it again). Harsh, but we need to keep the list operating reasonably. I don't know what the world's coming to -- seldom a week goes by on my main work email list without the list admin reposting the rules and intro because of abuses. Now can we stop this pointless discussion and get back to lobbing venue ideas about, like the subject says, please? Thanks ;-) -- MJR (For addresses, telephones, fax, etc, see headers.)

Dang. This list is meant to bounce attachments. Sorry folks -- filters tweaked. "C. N. Ross" <cnr(a)dircon.co.uk> writes: > So is there anyone out there? Is ALUG atcive? ALUG is alive and currently "stable, but improving". ALUG-IRC is held on Mondays at 2000 in OpenProjects Net (server eu.openprojects.net port 8001 #alug) and the most recent log (but not too interesting) is at http://www.cloaked.freeserve.co.uk/comp/alugirc2.html In real life, ALUG-40 (aka "Brian", I think) was held last Sunday at Syleham and equalled the lowest-ever turnout. Fixing the website is seen as a priority, followed by putting together event publicity material for local noticeboards and computer shops. The next ALUG meeting will be in about a month, probably 17th September, but venue is TBC (Pete?). The mailing list is moderately quiet, but a steady stream of messages. MIME attachments are unwelcome, so please try to make sure to send plain-text only. Anything I've forgotten? -- MJR (For addresses, telephones, fax, etc, see headers.)

Have you been asleep, Mr Savory? Anyway, the website being at UEA only precludes non-UEA maintainers, which isn't the same but still not healthy. > * Need CVS and/or ssh access to it, as there will be statics as well as > slashdot-style stuff; No, if we have zope, we don't need this, as it has internal versioning and web-based admin. It may be useful for a few people to have access, but "a shell for all" is not required, as we all have our own Linux boxes, don't we? ;-) > * Probably need to divide it into logical sections and get people to own > each section, eg news, links, meetings. Yes, this is intentional. > * Should probably move mailing lists to it too (alug@stu makes less sense > than something(a)anglian.lug, no?) I'm reluctant to have all the eggs in one basket (if we lose one machine or the other in a blazing fireball, we can reconstruct very quickly if there's already somewhere with alug access), but a forwarder probably makes sense. > Of course, I'm +1 for writing all content in XML and sticking Cocoon on > the front-end :-) Of course, you have a -1 weighting for the state of the current site. ;-) Personally, I'd rather use the mature system to get a kick-arse site right now than fight with an alpha framework to get something up soon. That's why I use Linux not Win2k... /me slaps self for use of FUD -- MJR (For addresses, telephones, fax, etc, see headers.)
