Debian updates

Morning all, I have just installed Debian 2.1 on my two machines at home after using Suse for a while and have now discovered the X servers are a little old and don't support my gfx card. I was wondering does anyone have some suitable updates on CD? I was wondering if it would be a good idea to go up to Potato? WinLinux beta?

Has anybody actually tried this yet? I've got a copy of it on the PC Format DVD which I'm happy to bring along to the next meeting if anybody's interested. Definite Linux

I see that the latest Definite Linux is now available to download from: ftp://212.1.130.10/pub/Definite/7.0/ Details at: http://www.definitelinux.com/ Far too big a download for my modem connection. I'd really like to try this as it's a UK specific distro based on Red Hat (which I use). Any of you Uni chaps like to do me a favour and grab me an ISO on your fast connection before the next meeting? Talking of the next meeting has a date been decided yet? Mandrake logon problems?

I just installed Mandrake 6.1 off the latest PC Answers coverdisk. All went well, couldn't tell the difference between that and RH6.0's installer (apart from the total lack of X server setup, expect you're meant to do that after you have a working console). When I get to the standard logon prompt I input root and enter as usual but it doesn't give me a password prompt just another logon prompt, hence I can't get into the system. This is also the case with a normal user and when I try booting from a floppy instead of the hdd (lilo is on the mbr). I can get into a bash prompt by using lilo single but that still gets me nowhere, I tried changing the root password and running lilo again from there. Any ideas? Could the good folks at PC Answers have slipped us a lemon I wonder? Does that mean the A120 to Clacton is some sort of Wormhole!?!?!? MJR, The block of text I guess you are refering to is attached to the end of all outbound email from the FT's email routers.
