Setting up a closed IRC channel

Can any IRC experts out there give me some pointers on setting up a closed IRC channel for the developers within my company? Background is that we (i.e. the developers employed by Kewill in the UK) have over the last couple of days attended a piss-u^H^H^H^H^H^H^H conference organised by the IT director. We were talking about ways we can keep in touch. General consensus was that e-mail and Windows IM weren't very good tools for this if we wanted to open up discussions to everybody and that a closed IRC channel might work well. In total, 13 (14 if you count Tux) people attended so it's lucky we opted to sit in a different place to the usual where there happened to be more seats. There was also the added bonus of easy access to the pool table :) As is to be expected, the topics of conversation were many and various and, with thirteen of us, sometimes confusing ;) OK, so I can't remember any specific snippets of conversation to post here so I'll let someone else do that. The highlight of the night though, was the tense and highly competitive testing of wills and intellect between myself, Kaz, James, and Dave known to mere mortals as... Frustration. The winner being me :D All in all, a good time was had by all, Eli's bike lights were attached, Mike's resin coated USB flash device amused, and Tux got coated in cigarette ash and beer. Hi, I'm not expert with linux but I've put a few boxes together. I think the problem may be the 2 slaves on IDE Channel 2. I think each IDE channel needs to have one master. Good luck. Well, riseup.net is wonderful and reminds me of my youth - but the residents of my village are middleaged at best, and only interesting in discussing how to manage their Staithe and moorings better. Radical social change is far, yes, maybe too far, from their minds. Don't laugh, its coming towards you too, every day! Wrote to Black Cat, thanks for the suggestion. Regards Peter

Way back when I worked in the printing industry, (when we set metal type by hand), there was a considered opinion that the coastline of Eastern England was in itself a visual image that was instantly recognisable. Why not therefore, try using the section of the Map of the UK now coloured yellow on the ALUG page, fading away the inland edges and superimposing a Tux on top? Setting up listserve

Question: for our village, I would like to set up a mailing list, so I don't have to keep sending out paper minutes and action items for a local group I'm being made responsible for. Any suggestions on who to get service from, what to use and so on? It will be small membership and low traffic. Regards Peter Berrie
