I have exactly the same problem with Mandrake 8.2 downlaod edition which I am running but only when the mouse is plugged in as USB - if I plug the same mouse in the PS2 port it doesn't happen. I have no idea why and desite paying money to join the spectacularly useless Mandrake Club thing for extra support nobody has come up with an answer yet. Dave

I have a serious problem with X (I think!) - Help!!!

I'm running Debian Testing and I did an update yesterday. I think one, or more, of the packages was X related. I really can't remember any more than that. One of the new packages was updated source code for my kernel which is 2.4.19. I compiled and installed that. When I rebooted and started KDE, my normal desktop, the whole machine froze after a short time. Absolutely nothing worked. I have the magic sysrq key option in the kernel activated but even that did nothing. Only a hard reset would work. I tried booting using my previous kernel with the same results so I've ruled out the new kernel. I have since tried Icewm,as it's less complicated than KDE, and it appears to work after a fashion. I am writing this with my normal email application running under Icewm. There is a 'but' of course. If I try to switch consoles using <ctrl><alt><Fn> the machine locks up immediately as before. If I try to exit Icewm the machine locks up even if I exit using <ctrl><alt><backspace>. I am assuming that this is an X problem. I have no idea where, or how, to start looking and some advice is sorely needed and would be very welcome. Sharp Zaurus for less than 300 quid

Hi all, I just ordered myself a Sharp Zaurus from http://www.expansys.com/ less than 300 quid including delivery, the best price before this was about 350 quid online and you also get 50 quids worth of free accessories atm... although this may be perhaps a stock clearance, or maybe a new model is just around the corner. I have used Expansys before and they seem quite good. Hi, I finally took the plunge and went for GPRS, and thought I'd share my linux configuration experiences in case anyone else has to go through the same pain as I did! * Why would you want to do this? - Faster connection whilst on the road (up to 5x the speed of a dialup connection over a GSM mobile connection) - The geek factor * Why wouldn't you want to do this? - On most networks a GPRS connection is more expensive per mb than a dialup connection (call charges work out less than per mb charges!) - Super high latency link: don't expect to be IRCing from it, but fine for email downloading etc. * What do you need? - A computer running linux (Debian in this example) - A mobile phone with GPRS support - A mobile phone service provider, with GPRS enabled on your account I'm on O2, using a Sony Ericsson T68i over infrared to my Debian laptop. These details should be more or less the same regardless of distribution, network or phone: the only things you need to check are the "APN" (access point name, eg "mobile.o2.co.uk"), username and password, and dial string. * How? Configuring a successful computer-phone connection is beyond the scope of this. Get that working first! On Monday somebody (don't have access to my logs, so can't remember who) was talking about the Debain security update for Apache and not being able to pull it from security.debian.org for some reason. The SSL update, which hadn't been announced, but was expected, was also queried - possibly by the same person --- am I being a little vague here? Anyway, I thought I'd just post to say that both are out now (well, the SSL one came out last night, I just forgot to post) and I've successfully downloaded and installed both. Dear Egg Spurts - after numerous reboots, I can't get Deb3 to break out of screen lockup after some sort of resume. At LILO/Right shift the only option in "Linux". When selected, same boot routine results in two mins of screen scrool, with no option to stop, which seems to start from where we left off but followed by same stop/black screen.
