Just a quick note to introduce myself ... I'm a network specialist who's just returning i=to the *nix world after having been lured away to M$ by money <g>. I live in Felixstowe, and run a small network of RH8 machines here at home. Its been a struggle remembering how to handle Linux, but I'm getting there. TD

Looks quite cool, very QuakeGL(or Quake-forge). Newbie Redhat 8.0 install probs

Hi All, I'm a relative new-comer to the world of Linux and need some advice/help regarding an install of Redhat 8.0. I'm installing to a second HD on the primary channel, PCChips 810, 384MB, Radeon 7500VE to a Dell 1025HE monitor. This is networked via crossover cable to a RISC OS box using a KVM. Everything seems to progress fine, including the graphics card selection. The installer picks up the correct card model, RAM type and size. The problem arises with the monitor selection, it reports "un-probed". I have tried selecting the correct Dell model from the list but it will not give me the test screen or indeed any other help. If I then continue with the install the boot screen errors on the boot screen with EE for the graphics card and the monitor and then hangs. The error is something along the lines of 'screens found but no usable screens defined' or very similar. Has anybody had this problem or can anyone shed any light? TIA -- Greg Harris (Norwich)

DVD / DMA

I was wondering if anyone could help me with the following please? I installed ogle a while back but the DVD playback kept jumping. On the assumption that this was ogle playing up I installed xine, and the test script that comes with it mentioned that my DVD player hadn't got DMA enabled. following the instructions to enable it just caused my system (SuSE 8.0) to fall over in a heap. There is no problem under windows though. I assume therefore that the mobo/dvd drive can't use DMA under linux (sorry, haven't got the make/models of them). Before I go out and buy a new motherboard/DVD drive, could the fault be anywhere else? Do I need to compile anything into the kernel perhaps? If your bying new hardware you shouldnt need to set IRQ's, DMA's or ioports's. Most pci and agp cards self configure so unless you still have a isa card youll be fine.
