Cheers, Yes I'll have a look on Sunday please. WBH has sent me a copy of his boilerplate - which should keep me busy for a few weeks ;-) I intend to bring a jaz drive with me on Sunday (haven't got a cdw yet so I'm hoping to borrow the company Jaz instead (should give me a chance to play SCSI anyways) - together with the necessary stuff for SourceNavigator, Insight and gdb5.0 if anyone wants to grab a copy. I also intend to have a network card in my machine by then but if not does anyone know how to link up using another method (parallel, serial, modem)? Bad practice to reply to your own posts but also have a look at [http://www.ecst.csuchico.edu/~beej/guide/net] - good guide to network programming http://www.cis.udel.edu/~totten/vi/ for using VI. I Can only recommend the book Programming with GNU Software Mike Loukides and Andy Oram O'reilly ISBN: 1-56592-112-7 (I can bring it on sunday if you want to have a look before you buy) It covers everything from Editing and Compiling to Makefiles and the CVS system. Greetings, Jo, I was looking forward to Sunday (I was going to bring my laptop and hope that some genius could casually type in a few commands here and there and get the pc card and networking going that I gave up on weeks ago) (I also had this idea that we would be eating a lot of biscuits and drinking a lot of coffee which is always a pleasant thought) but I can't make that date.
