Unresolved symbol iopl

Hi Folks Just started writing a new driver for an on going project - The user space test program works fine (up to a point). It reads and writes to the correct IO ports as expected, but the user interface is a bit naff. Now the fun begins - Converting this thing to a module, I have all the usual header includes (lifted from an existing driver), and have hacked the basic initialization routines. It compiles without any errors which in it's self might be worrying, but when I load the module, I get an unresolved symbol "iopl" - I thought this thing was a requirement before any IO access could take place. Has anyone come across this before ? Regards, Paul.

exim conf request

Hi all, I meant to ask on IRC last night (but was too occupied with talking about food and motorbikes)....is there anyone out there who could send me a copy of their exim.config file, so I can try and see where i am going wrong? I'm trying to set up my home network so that my windows-using family go through my linux box for mail as well as web access.....I've now got as far as windows sending the mail to linux box and it being passed on out of the door correctly, but mail coming in for $user(a)trx850.uklinux.net all gets sent to /var/spool/mail/jenny rather than /var/spool/mail/$user. Which would be fine if I want to sit by my box forwarding mail to the correct owner all day after spying on their conversations, but I don't. I did get my web proxy server to do caching last night - it hadn't hitherto worked because i needed to change the owner of the cache directory to web-user. Simple when you know how, *sigh*. Thanks! Many thanks to all for replies to new kernel question: just back at my desk after ten blissful days away. All seems to have gone well, with lilo happy to give me a choice of kernels to boot into....2.4.18 seems ok so far. Let's see if it cures the "do_try_to_free_pages_update" problem! Cheers, all! new kernel install

Happy spring, all! I've celebrated by doing my first kernel upgrade. Now, I have gone through all the make stuff, and ended up at make bzimage, with the intention of sticking the image on a floppy for testing. However I've come up with the message "warning: kernel is too large for standalone boot from floppy". How advisable is it to just go ahead and "make install" at this stage? I have copied vmlinz-2.2.18 and config-2.2.18 to vmlinuxOLD and configOLD. Also, is "make bzlilo" like "make install" but also tells lilo about the new kernel image? Thanks! Jen.

Actually, a CD with one of the live Linux demo systems on, a copy of something like zipslack for the Windows/DOS users and copies of network install images for Debian and any others is probably a very good idea for the Install Day. I expect other LUGs participating would like to use such a thing. I'm more than happy to do the artwork and documentation, so who can compile the CD image? Shall we talk about this on IRC on Monday? I expect I can arrange distribution too if required, but hopefully it won't be a full 650Mb (reduce download and burn times... let's not fill the disc with crap just to make up the numbers, but having (for example) key starter docs from the LDP on there is probably a good idea). -- MJR
