Looking for a low-end Linux server

I'm looking for a low-end linux box - preferably rack-mount to act as a secondary disk mirror for a large web site. Spec should be: - 512MB RAM - 750MHZ - 1GHz - processor not too important - at least 400-500GB hard disk space Does anybody have any idea where I can buy such a beast? I'm happy to do the linux install myself, as long as the box is linux-capable. Many thanks...

Even this would struggle with the traffic that most large sites get today - particularly if the site application designers don't understand how web servers work, which seems to be too often the case.

Their maximum storage (internal) is only 365GB of U160 SCSI (10k rpm). A KDE2 mystery

After upgrading Debian Potato/KDE1 to Debian Testing/KDE2 an icon on the KDE desktop which should run Word Perfect now doesn't. I have seen in the .xsession-errors file a line which says: cannot find path to /usr/local/WordPerfect/wpbin/xwp This used to work under KDE1 but the mystery is that if I copy the command line from the icon properties and paste it into a shell window Word Perfect runs without problems. If I enable the icon property 'Run in terminal' then it will run. Can anyone explain this please? Barry Samuels

I let it set up all my X server, gadgets, games etc. and installed all the server stuff from source. Since I sometimes play about with stuff at home for work I find that Mandrake's default installation locations are pants, not to mention the fact that it installs Apache with *everything* turned on. In fact I hardly ever install from packages. I don't find that Mandrake complains at all. If I need to install something from the CDs then I use the source RPM and build it from there. That way I don't have to worry about missing dependencies etc. All in all, a great distro - and this comes from a "hardcore" Unix user who plays with Solaris at work. Matt
