OK, as part of my policy of announcing things about 17 years before I'll get time to do it, I'm going to make the following proposal: Proposal: - Move the ALUG web site to static core and a Wiki Background information: http://c2.com/cgi/wiki Rationale: - We're not keeping an up-to-date site - People bitch at me variously about XML and CVS - People bitched at me about Zope - People will still bitch about the Wiki, but at least we should get an up-to-date web site with no barrier to entry at all. Your options: - Idly support this move (most people) - Pledge to help maintain the wiki when it's online - Mutiny (feel free) Vote now :-) -- MJR

Linux & the job market

I just had an interview with a recruitment agency up North, and we went over my technical skills. One thing that I found interesting was that although I have 2 years M$ experience, they talked almost exclusively about my involvement with Linux (which I casually mention on my CV in 'personal interests'). Unfortunately, with the economy taking such a nosedive, there were no jobs to offer me, but still, it's an encouraging thought. Seems there are a lot of ISP's in that area, and they want people with Linux/Unix/Solaris experience/knowledge. Debian Cover CD/Programming Tool

Seomeone recently mentiond problems with a Debian Magazine Cover CD. Does anybody know of a recent one that I might be able to track down? Another one for some oldies out there - has anyone seen a programming tool for console that works a bit like M$ old C4 (Editor/compiler/linker/make/debugger) all in text? AMANDA, SAMBA and win 32

Has anyone on-list actually used AMANDA to back up Win NT clients over a LAN? Thing is, we currently use Veritas Backup Exec, and it's dead expensive, and not backwards compatible. It needs to back up _open_ SQL databases, Lotus Notes databases, hidden shares, the lot. It *appears* that it can backup open files, but I'm not wholly convinced!Anyone with experience? Looking for software

Hi Folks I'm looking for a tool that I can draw a number of boxes on a canvas, enter text in the boxes and then draw a rat's nest of connecting lines between them. Easy enough so far, but I also want to be able to drag these boxes complete with text around on the screen and have any interconnecting lines "rubber band". i.e. I don't want to have to redraw the connections each time a box is moved. Does anyone know of such a program that will run under KDE or even Gnome ?? Regards, Paul.
