What news web sites or mailing lists do you follow? I'm interested not just in Linux ones (where LWN's weekly edition is my main read at the moment) but also more general computing, technology or science ones. I've not got time to read rolling news that much, so weekly and monthly editions and newsletters are especially welcome. Thanks, MJR

I'd second that... a friend of mine got an old MacII (I think?) for a few quid at a rally..... Linux wouldn't play fair, but we managed to get NetBSD up and running after we persuaded to work! :-) There's no boot loader though... you had to boot MacOS first. Advice needed

I need a new HDD. I have narrowed it down to two. Seagate 30GB ATA/100 7200 rpm £102 inc P&P inc VAT IBM 41.1GB 7200 rpm ATA/100 £82 + VAT + 10 P&P I know the IBM looks better on paper, but we have had 3 IBM hdd fail at work (all 20GB) so am worried about them. Time for my weekly rant! <rant> I have just tried to download a document from the web site of my local MEP only to find its in bloody MS Word Format! Now this is a theme I am seeing recuring across the web, people feeling that it is perfectly acceptable to publish things in the appalling format that is MS word documents! I have just emailed the web master of the site to request they stop doing it but think its pissing in the wind. This means more and more people will find it acceptable. Even tho Post script and PDF are perfectly acceptable and free formats with freely available readers which don't rely on the monopoly. next step is to request your.page.is.using.a.non.free.format.for.publishing.documents.this.is.restrictive.please.stop.it and see what they do!
