Anyway, my current efforts on fetch/sendmail show complete inability to press the ON button on the washing machine.

Awwww, do tell... I drop a script with "fetchmail -d 7200 ; runq" in ip-up.d and "fetchmail -q" into ip-down.d, myself. -- MJR
