Announcement: Debian Woody (spoof)

Debian developers have decided that with the impending change of Woody from Debian Confusing to Debian Stable, things just aren't hard enough. In order to really fox newbies and gurus alike, the official debian site has announced that Debian Woody will be released in the wrong language (this is the UK mirror, for example):- http://www.uk.debian.org/releases/woody/ WHAT THIS MEANS: All US versions of Debian will now be in Dutch. All non-US versions will only come with Danish locales installed, except the Danish version, which will be in Japanese. The Japanese version will be in Albanian. A move to Czech has been scheduled for the next stable release, since the Czech language uses very few vowels (in fact some words are merely made of 2 consonants), and this reminds the developers of UNIX commands (cp, mv, ls, rm etc.). The Czech version, of course, will be in Gaelic. I was just SO sneaky no-one ever noticed. But seeing as I'm busy right now, I'm abdicating in favour of another member of the Linux Illuminati. The Linux Illuminati predate Linux as we know it; they are responsible for vi, USB support (or lack of), the switch from one version of rpm making it incompatable with another, and Debian Testing (also known as Debian Confusing). I was personally responsible for the bug in supermount which locked directories irrecoverably. I'm quite proud of that one. My other favourite is the NVIDIA drivers, but I cannot claim sole responsibility for that - it took a *real* evil genius to come up with that one. If you do a search on the archives of the main list for NVIDIA, you will see numerous posts on this! My main tip is to make sure you d/l the correct kernel drivers, and also to read the install instructions VERY carefully. Also, if you look for the how-to for Nvidia cards at www.linuxnewbie.org you should find this helpful. I got the drivers to work really well (after 2 or 3 attempts) with Mandrake 8.1, but it totally f*cked my Redhat box, and since I don't really play games, I haven't bothered to try again. > On Gnome-stones, 'New game' doesn't do anything, I'm not sure, you may wish to find the website for Gnome Stones and upgrade the package- it may be a bug (or report the bug to them) > DrakeLogo doesn't run. Not sure what that program is/does, you could try to run it from a terminal and see what it says.
