If you want an easy to use GUI X based text editor you may want to try nedit
...if you can stand *that* toolkit... seriously, I know Andrew swears by it, while I just swear at it for the Motif flakiness at UEA ;-)
Is it any better built against lesstif?
PS I would like to suggest we get adam or another vi fan and an emacs fan such as Mark here to run a debate at an alug meeting over which is better Vi or emacs.
I think you'd need someone who followed the religion a bit more closely than me. Most of my interest in XEmacs comes from the wonderful applications which have been developed on top of it, such as gnus and pcl-cvs.

It seems to me rock solid under motif or lestif, at least in my opinion, I may have to more on to the tear off menus like in nedit to avoid the motif bug I have found with standard menus.
Strangely enough motif anounced it was now freed from motif almost exactly the same time open motif was released, could it be they where waiting for both netscape and nedit to give up on motif being free before releasing the code, I dont know but its a silly thought.

Ah well, still havent got a holy war going as it does make good entertainment and very informative in what vi and emacs give to the experiance user
